Carrie Belt is the founder and principal of Carrie Belt & Associates, LLC. Carrie's mother was a freelance writer and lover of language, which meant that Carrie was raised in an environment where writing was encouraged, a strong vocabulary was stressed as a means of communicating exactly, and grammar mistakes were always promptly corrected. Carrie has had a lifelong appreciation for the power and nuances of effective writing.

Carrie graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. degree in Media Arts and Design with a special concentration in Cinema Studies. During her college career, she wrote three feature-length screenplays and a 500-page novel under the mentorship of double Emmy award winning writer Thomas O'Connor. She also received three First Place National Collegiate Gold Circle Awards for her work with university publications. Writing, to Carrie, wasn't just a hobby and a passion; it was a career goal that she pursued tirelessly.

Yet, Carrie was also keenly interested in business and economic development. Before becoming a full-time writer, Carrie was the founding Assistant Director of the Richmond, Virginia-based Creative Change Center (C3). C3 was developed as a pioneering non-profit organization designed to catalyze economic development of the Richmond region by promoting and encouraging the creative endeavors of Richmond-area entrepreneurs.

The motivation behind C3 was based on the economic theories of renowned economist Richard Florida. Florida's research indicates that cities that are growing and thriving are cities that support entrepreneurial efforts. In order to serve the needs of regional entrenpreneurs, C3 served as a hub for business best practice information and connected entrepreneurs with professionals that provided advice, motivation, and resources to help new businesses succeed. C3 also conducted classes, one-on-one sessions with industry experts, and workshops to share information about business operations, including programs that focused on legal issues, accounting, marketing, Web site development, networking, and entrepreneurialism.

Through her involvement with C3, Carrie was able to blend her love of business with her passion for writing and communications. She developed her freelance writing business from 2004 to 2006 using skills and practical experience that she learned through her role with C3. In 2006, Carrie left C3 to pursue writing as a full time independant agent.
